Supporting those with learning difficulties
Cornerstone Support works with service users’ with learning difficulties and their family or caregivers to develop a personalised care and support plan that addresses their specific needs, goals, and preferences. This involves identifying strengths and areas of difficulty, as well as outlining strategies for managing challenging behaviours.
We collaborate with professionals such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and behaviour specialists to ensure that service users receive the appropriate care and treatment for their specific needs.

Providing structure & routine
Cornerstone Support recognises many service users with learning difficulties benefit from a structured and predictable routine. Our strategy involves regular mealtimes, bedtime routines, and schedules for activities and appointments.
Using visual aids & pictures
We utilise visual aids, such as picture schedules, social stories, and visual prompts in our communication. This is to support service users with learning difficulties understand and follow routines and instructions and take part in activities with others.
Promoting independence & choice
Cornerstone Support provides opportunities for service users to make choices, taking responsibility for tasks, and developing life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and budgeting. This is all part of our care planning and programme of independence.
Providing support with activities of daily living
Service users with learning difficulties may require assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. Our teams provide support by offering guidance, reminders, and assistance when needed.
Offering social and recreational activities
Socialisation and recreation are important for promoting the well-being of service users with learning difficulties. Our teams provide opportunities for socialisation through activities such as games, crafts, outings, and community events.
Providing a safe & supportive environment
Creating a safe and supportive environment is important for the well-being of service users. Our home is clean, comfortable, and secure, and we offer opportunities for relaxation and stress reduction, such as sensory stimulation and relaxation techniques.
